1) Ugly
2) Letsrun is nearly at the bottom. wtf?
3) Ugly
I say just keep it the same.
I actually agree. There is no reason to change Letsrun.com. It's beauty is in its simplicity, if ugly layout. It's effective - AND recognizable. That's what is most important. Drudge is a great example of how an ugly site can be very very effective.

The Penn State football uniforms are another example of ugly being very effective.

...If by "ugly" you mean "great."
Penn State's uniforms are anything but ugly. In fact, they are almost always ranked at the very top of "Best NCAA Football Uniforms" lists (for whatever that's worth...not a whole lot, I know).
The beauty is in their simplicity. And in their colors. White = awesome. Navy blue = awesome.
exactly. there is beauty in simplicity. letsrun, as it is now, is simple. it's effective.
here's my message to the brojos - don't listen to the critics...that includes your mom :)
It could use some minor tweaking - a bit of padding between the text and borders, maybe some elements justified horizontally or some horizontal sections headers with little bit of color. And definintely less text with each link.
Otherwise, yeah, the best thing about this site is that it is about information and conversation, not a pretty page with nothing to it.
If you're going to tweak little things like padding - you'll end up tweaking the entire site. at least that's what happens to me.
I always have found it funny that they don't even stylize their links...
I actually like it that way. it's appealing in its lack of detail. I will say that MOST sites today cannot get away with that "lack of detail", and be effective. Letsrun has earned its right to be apathetic.
We're runners and seem to like the minimalist approach. No fancy schmancy for me or silly avatars thank you. It's the convo that we like, no? Leave it alone please.

did you make this for the contest, or was this something already made because if its for the contest you need to put the ads in
not for the contest, but it looks clean in a letsrun-esque style;
here's the problem with the contest - if you spend a lot of time on a redesign - then lose, you wasted a lot of time and effort - and you have a mock up of a letsrun front page that is worthless
but i'm sure they'll be plenty of entries...who knows.
hey lighten up, aqua's css is pretty damn good.
(I'm a pro web developer myself, i.e. a programmer, so not a css guy per se, if anyone cares)

Yes, that's generally how contests work. Congratulations on having a fundamental understanding of them.

you're probably right. it's just a lot of work. hopefully someone doesn't use a template or something not original...I actually think the site should stay as it is - after thinking it over a bit.
