I know it is light in it's weight, but what is it considered? Is it's cushioning on par with other cushioned trainers?

Anyone?
They are the best shoes I've ever run in.
I used to run in the nike zoom elite 3 and the asics ds trainer 13.
I started wearing the luna and never put the other two on again. I'm on my second pair and retired the first pair to the trails.
I'd say it's a "light weight trainer" more than a "cushioned trainer". It weighs less than 10oz, and to me cushioned trainer means something like a Nike Pegasus or Asics Kayano.
By the way, what's the point of even asking this question?
The point was the guy had a ?. Go away... The weight doesn't have anything to do with the cushion. The shoe feels much more cushioned than the elite or peg. My experience is the cushion is not too much like the vomero. As for the kayano, it's a stability shoe.
I wasn't trying to be rude, I was curious why he asked the question. Don't act all butt-hurt over it.
Technically you're right, weight has nothing to do with cushioning. However, I don't see very many "lightweight trainers" in the 14oz range nor do I see many "cushioned trainers" in the 8oz range. The general correlation is that the lighter the shoe, the less cushioning it has.
If you want to get all worked up about it, how about you first provide me with what your exact definition is of both a "lightweight trainer" and a "cushioned trainer". Then maybe we can have an actual rational conversation instead of you just getting all emotional.
Exactly. Most light weight trainers don't have the cushioning of normal trainers. I've heard the Lunar Trainer has the weight of a light weight trainer and the cushioning of a normal trainer. I ask the question to see if anyone could clarify.
Thank you mink. That is all I was curious about.
The Luna series outsole is made up of a low density, lightweight foam inside a denser, more durable foam which prevents it from breaking down too quickly. This lightweight foam is what gives the Luna it's cushiony and springy feel. The disadvantage is that the inner soft foam breaks down faster than something denser, therefore the cushioning has a shorter life.
What would be nice is if Nike made the Luna with a better tread pattern on the outsole...the almost flat bottom is pretty bad compared to other flats such as the T5 or Adizero Pro.
the lunarlite foam makes the shoe very lightweight with a substantial amount of cushioning. it is the best trainer i have worn. in answer to the question, lightweight and cushioned are basically two separate categories which typically correspond to one being lightweight with less cushioning, and the other type being heavier because it had more cushioning. this shoe is both lightweight and cushioned (and extremely comfortable).
I'm sorry pnw, your comment was misinterpreted. I will agree with runchi the shoe is just amazing. The cushioning just keeps on rocking.
Apology accepted 1500. Now if this was real life I'd buy you a beer.
Letsrun not real life?..............
Alright, you guys are killing me. I've been pretty anti-Nike for several years but all this talk about the Lunars is wearing me down. I'm gonna buy the trainer and racer!

Those two shoes are not similar in the slightest.
The lunar trainer is a lightweight cushioned trainer. Lighter than an average trainer, as cushioned as your average trainer.
I went up a 1/2 size from my normal trainers.
thanks, I've heard that mentioned a bit too. Anyone else care to comment on the size-up regarding the trainers?... I'm an Asics guy, 8.5 in Speedstar, Stratus, Ohana and 9 in DS Trainer. Do I want 8.5 or 9 in Lunars?
Good question??Anyone know

my xc spikes are the mizuno wave kaze 4...listed to weigh 8.0 oz
the lunar trainer is listed to weigh 8.8 oz...wouldn't it kind of suck to switch from such a light trainer to a spike barely lighter?
one of the best things about trainers is they weigh 12 oz and then you put on your 4-8 oz spikes and tear it up

No. Don't answer questions on matters you know nothing about, okay?
The Lunar TRAINER is a cushioned trainer. The light feeling of the shoe is just something thats never been done before by any other company. I'll say it again, NO OTHER COMPANY HAS EVER BEEN ABLE TO CREATE A WELL CUSHIONED TRAINER THAT RIVALS THE VOMERO OR NIMBUS, WHILE KEEPING THE SHOE LIGHT.
The Lunar TRAINER is in its own category.
The Lunar RACER is a lightweight trainer/racing flat because it still offers enough cushion to train in. I had a friend train 300+ miles in the RACER because he thought it was more comfortable than the TRAINER.
GAME OVER

8.5 in the Lunars
The DS Trainer runs a half size small. Every time a new version comes out, it's always a half size small, I dont know why.
Our spring spikes weigh in at 3.4 so that's a big difference.
It's not so much the weight. To me the ds trainers felt light and I'm not one to chase light weight shoes. I wish they weighed more so I had more to carry in training. The thing about this shoe is it works for me. It disappears when I'm running. I always felt like I was working to run through my gait cycle in my zooms and ds trainers. Almost swinging from my butt, planting, but not flexing the foot. I actually used the ds trainers for a morning run last week and kept tripping over my toes.
Note that I'm a light weight runner with good form but I work on form drills.
As for size I went up a 1/2 size from the zoom elites. I can't compare them to my ds bc I'm not sure what # I have and the size in that shoe is crazy. I think I wear a 1/2 less in the luna than in the ds trainer.
