Hi all:
I am a pretty slow female runner (18:20 5K) who did a horrible marathon three weeks ago. I went into the marathon with a knee injury and got muscle cramps with 10k to go. I had to walk and jog and only clocked 3:02.
I did not feel that tired after the marathon because I could not really run the last 10k. So I thought I could have a speedy recovery, but I did not. I ran easily for 2 weeks and raced a 5000m and my legs felt like rubber, very heavy and weak. Then I had another week of easy running and raced a very hilly 15k. I felt absolutely horrible. Again, my legs were really heavy and I had to crawl up the slightest incline the last half of the race. I was 4 minutes off what I should have run.
It seems like I do not have any strength or endurance. My friends all said I should have recovered from the marathon by now. (They ran the marathon too and are all are doing very well) I checked my blood (iron, thyroid hormone etc) and everything is fine. I do not think I am over-trained as I sleep very well and am not depressed.
I really want to run but my body is just dead tired. Why does it taking so long for me to get back (my pre marathon 10k was 37:xx)? I had been running 100km+ a week for a year and had a decent base.
All you experienced runners, please help, I am so frustrated.
