A freshman and a sophomore finished 2-3 at the Indiana State meet this past Saturday.
Futsum Zeinasellassie of Eritrea, a freshman from North Central (yes, he's 15) stopped in the first 500 meters of the race to tie his shoe after he had gotten the heel stepped on so he was running on the back of his shoe. An eyewitness claims it took 15 seconds. He untied and retied his shoe and sprinted up to the front to join the leaders for a 4:50 first mile (so 4:35 for him) and went on to get 2nd in 15:25, losing in a 600m kick to a senior with 4:07 speed.
James Martin of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a sophomore from Carroll High School, who also finished 2nd in 15:56 as a freshman, finished 3rd overall in 15:33. Pretty impressive run for both of these two.
Drew Shields of Fishers won the title in 15:20.
