I'm looking to step up to the marathon come fall 2009 and have begun doing basic aerobic base training, but I haven't started doing workouts yet because I don't know what time to shoot for. I've always been better at the longer distances, but never had a stellar xc season because I always managed to do something dumb over the summer and break something. This past spring I ran a 9:40 2 miler and I seem to get stronger (in competition) as the distance goes up. So i was wondering with the right amount of training, what kind of time should I be looking to hit. I know it's hard to tell of a 2mile time but that comes from the only season I didn't really have an injury.
