Things were progressing well with my marathon training until I came down with some sort of a virus/head cold on Tuesday. I am slated to run the first 20 miles of a small marathon tomorrow at goal marathon pace.
I ran easy on Wednesday for a little over an hour and took the last couple of days off.
The glands in my neck are achy and I generally feel pretty weak right now.I'm also coughing up some fairly nasty neon green phlegm. It's not down in my chest and isn't affecting my breathing.
Should I continue with my plan for tomorrow to run 6:10 pace (goal pace) or should I revise my plan to 6:20's or so? Should I just play it by ear and see how I feel ? I have a had a tendency in the past to push myself too hard (I once spent two hours in the medical tent after collapsing at Bloomsday with a core body temp. of 108) and I'm afraid that I may do myself more harm than good.
Any advice or stories of similar experiences would be appreciated. My marathon is 6 weeks away.
