What do we know about them? Anyone have any opinions? I'm thinking about getting some.

Enjoy your injuries!
They are loved by the yuppie triathletes and basically people who think they are hard core with their little hydrating belts. Seriously though $180 for one pair of shoes? SERIOUSLY??
get the same results with footgloves.
Does anyone have any real experience running in these? Cost is not an issue to me, I want to run in the best.
Are you a mid to forefoot striker? If not are you willing to change?
Besides training there are 2 ways to get faster stride length and leg turn over. These shoe address leg turn over. I have found the best way to benefit from these shoes is to lean forward from your ankles and not the waist. The current models are for hard surfaces. You will not bebefit from them on soft surfaces. Since I run 98% trails I use the Newtons on my treadmill for tempo type work. I like the feel of the forefoot and quickness of the shoe. I also use the New Balance 800MF. I like both. The 800 is good for my uses outside.
As for price running shoes have not seen a significant price increase in years. Most went up $5.00 this year after a 8 year period of no increase. I think we will see this price point for lots of models in the near future.
I walked around briefly in a pair that belong to a friend whose feet are the same size as mine. They felt interesting and I was intrigued by them. But I often will like a pair of shoes that I try on and find that I don't like running in them. At $65 a pair, the usual top of my price range, that's not a tragedy. At over $150 I'm not willing to risk it.
By the way, I know of a couple one time Olympic medallists who have run in them because they were given them for free and they're ok with the shoes. This is just in response to whomever said only 5-6 hour marathon types use them.
I'd say that if you could get a pair that comes with a complete thirty day money back guaratntee you might havea go.

So you are saying the runner needs to adjust to the shoes instead of the shoes helping the needs of the runner. That's asinine. This Newton gimmick is overpriced garbage.
John,
I thought you were not suppost to use them on any tredmill at all. I remember hearing that it would basically take the forefoot membrane off of the shoe.
Josh Cox wears them now.

That's exactly what they come with.
http://newtonrunning.com/return-policy-a-guaranteeNewton does not recommend you use them on the treadmill for your first few runs. But after you get some wear on the pods the treadmill is fine.
Shoe dude you don't win at a video game the first time you play. You have to learn the game. Newtons are not for the heel striker! If you are a heel striker you have to learn to run on your forefoot. By learning how to use the shoe it will help you get faster. You cannot just plod along in this shoe. Is being faster asinine?
Have you tried one yet?
I had a meeting with a shoe company yesterday that has been making 'tennis' shoes since the late '60's. Now they are making technical running shoes. Now those Walmart looking shoes rediculous and over priced.
