Has anyone else noticed that goretex isnt breathable when it is actually raining? Why isnt this pointed out more often? It\'s useless.

It breathes some, but not perfectly. Go hike in the rain in a rubber suit, then hike in a goretex outfit, and see which has you drier underneath. I wouldn't want to wear Goretex running in the rain unless it was about 35 degrees F.
How old is the Goretex itemt that you're using, and what do you wash it with? You have to be careful with what kind of detergent you use to clean Goretex garments, as you can plug the pores in it with regular laundry detergents
truthfully there aren't many options for warmish weather rain gear, you need to find a combination of fabric and garment construction that will allow you to actively (via some type of vent system) allow air in/out
Gore makes a variety of membranes and some work better than others for hi activity use. they recently changed all their nomenclature so I would not know which one is now the best for the uses you are specifying.
Exactly how slow does one have to run in order for their perspiration to remain vaporous as opposed to actual droplets of sweat?
Goretex claiming that sweat can breathe out while water can't get in preys upon the stupidity of people who will believe anything. Don't know about you guys, but I freakin' sweat when I run. And my drops of sweat are about the same size as any typical drop of water I ever seen.
Do Goretex buyers also believe in "oxygenated water"?
you have heard of evaporation right?

Get Gore Tex Pro Shell you cheap bum.
Go with a product called eVent...same waterproofness, much more breathable than Gore-Tex. I have used their jackets on run, hikes and snowboarding, you won't be disappointed

Come run when it is -20 F and colder and tell me if you want Goretex or not.

I agree. If it's just raining, why are you wearing Goretex? Goretex is for cold weather, not rainy, whimpy weather. Goretx is to keep you warm...not dry. Come to Michigan in a few months and I'll show you the true value of Goretex.
People actually run in jackets? I don't understand these temperatures below 40 deg. you speak of.
It is also the best material when it is windy.
Don't go with GoreText. Go with eVENT. Several times more breathable than Goretex and still waterproof.
good article on mvtr / breathability of waterproof / breathable garments
this gets into the nuts n bolts of the issues everyone is describing

I have.
Do you run so slowly that your perspiration is actually able to evaporate faster than your body can produce it? Think about it pal, we are all perspiring as we live and breathe. For all intents and purposes, as we tool around from day to day activities, our perspiration evaporates fast enough that we don't form pools of sweat all over our body. Once we start to perspire faster than it can evaporate, we "sweat".
Once you start to perspire faster than the water vapor can escape, such as when you are running, then the Goretex membrane will be covered with sweat. Once the membrane is coated with water, exactly how is water vapor supposed to escape?
Sorry, pal, but after you start to sweat, running in Goretex is like running in a plastic bag . Except maybe in your magical world.

what? no, goretex IS to keep you dry. if its JUST cold, you dont need waterproofing, which is what goretex is all about. wear a t-shirt and a pro shell and you will be very, very cold. Isulation is what keep you warm, not a waterproof membrain retard.
I wish consumers would focus on comfort more than waterproofness.
If you are running and it is raining, you will not be dry. There is no fabric yet available that handles that volume of moisture transport.
Get a lightweight, dwr windshell (brooks lsd) and your favorite baselayer. The windbreakers with prevent conductive and convective heat loss and with a functional baselayer the environment next to the skin with be relatively warm.
How long has this been going on? I love goretex.
