So I'm a senior in college, on a D1 team, and have had issues with my coach (he wasn't the one who recruited me, my original coach left during my sophomore year) and his training sometimes. Anyway, we did this workout yesterday and I have a couple questions about it.
3 sets of: 1200 - 1000 - 800
1st set: 3:42 - 2:59 - 2:22
2nd set: 3:40 - 3:02 - 2:22
3rd set: 3:39 - 3:02 - 2:21
The rest was, 4 min after the 1200, 3 min after the 1000, and 3 min after the 800. We did the workout on a 600m loop half grass/half crushed limestone. We weren't really laboring at all, and it felt easy throughout the whole workout.
My question is...does that seem like a substantial amount of rest? I personally felt the 4 min was too much, I realistically wanted 3min tops after the 1200. My OLD coach believed in shorter rest, and faster intervals (usually around 4:50 pace for a workout like this) Under him I ran 25:04, and my new coach I have run 25:30 (it was last week, I was out for a whole year my sophomore year, so last year, jr year, I was just regaining strength with my seasonal PR being 26:02).
I feel like he uses too much rest for a lot of our workouts, and have talked to him about it many times, but he's seems to be stubborn and won't cut down the rest. I believe I'm capable of running sub 25 this year for 8k - so I want workouts that get me to that point...and I just feel this rest was a lil too much.
Could this workout be an indicator of that? Even with the longer rest (seemed too long to me)? Sorry if this is confusing to anyone - lemme know what you guys think. Thanks
