I am a 17 yo college freshman who is on the cross-country team at a small, liberal-arts school. The program is very weak. I am a low 29s 8k guy and the top 1 or 2 on the team. I chose the school for the academics, but that is beside the point.
Here is my problem. I have been running about 50-60 miles a week for the past 2 or 3 years. I realized long ago that I don't have the talent that one needs to rise to the top in this sport right away. However, I promise that I will make up for that in hard work. I am sick of losing. I need to take my running to the next level. My new coach, who I respect, is limiting all of the runners to the same mileage of 65ish miles per week. Today, our long run was going to be 12 miles, but he cut it to 10 because we were running late. It was at maybe 7:30-8:00 pace. SLOW. I didn't complain or anything, but afterwards, I headed out for another 7 miles, which is ambitious for me. But he somehow saw me and made me call it quits.
I realize that I need to trust in my coach, but it is hard when he needs to concentrate on the whole team, most of whom don't really care.
I will do whatever it take. I will run 100+ mile weeks, eat right, do core work, stretch, get lots of sleep, abstain from drinking, etc.
I need to be great.
I need letsrun.com to make it to Nationals in the next 4 years. Please help me put together an all-around plan to make this happen.
