I am curious about heart rate and condition as well as breathing pattern and running. My heart rate does not get too high during my runs. I was reading something that seemed like heart rate is around 95% for a 5k and 65% for a light workout?
I ran a mile as fast as I thought I could and my heart rate was 156 bpm right after the run. I ran the mile in 6:24.
I ran 3 1/2 miles today as a recovery (roughly 8:10 pace) and right after my heart rate was 128 bpm.
I ran 800m in 2:50 last week and my heart rate was 156 - 160 bpm.
I ran 5 miles yesterday at a 8:06 pace and ran an additional 1200m in approx 5 minutes and right after my heart rate was 144 - 152 bpm.
The way I check heart rate is right after, I count the number of beats in 15 seconds, add 1 and multiply by 4.
My max heart rate should be around 200 bpm based on my age (25).
Does this mean I am not running hard enough? Is it just that it takes so little time for your heart to slow down?
Does any of this figure into how fast I should try to run a 5k? I want to run a 5k this weekend and I have never done this before. I ran a total of 28 miles so far this year in 1 month. Last week I upped my training to 5 times a week, so since 9/15, I ran 8 days with a total of 20 miles (9 in the last 2 days).
When I run at around an 8 minute pace, my breathing is 3 strides inhale, 3 strides exhale. I would estimate from 8 minute pace to about 7 minute pace it is 2 inhale, 2 exhale. Faster than this it is 2 inhale, 1 exhale. This happens naturally. So for instance, if I start out a run at 8 minute pace, it is 3/3. If I increase the pace, it will switch to 2/2. When I go into a hard run/sprint, it goes into 2/1. It is not instant, but maybe after 5 seconds or so when it changes.
I can hold runs with the 3/3 pace for at least 5 miles. I can hold the 2/2 pace for at least 3 miles. I have no idea how long I can hold the 2/1 paces. I limit runs of that speed at the moment. I don't pay attention to it, but after a while it is obvious that there is a pattern and then it's hard not to notice it.
Also, if anyone has an estimate of my 5k time and some tips on how to run it, like a breakdown it would be appreciated.
Thanks
