Anyone ever had good results with building muscle without hitting the gym?
While running in college I lifted pretty hard for a distance runner, and most notably could do 25 pull-ups and bench reps at 150. I weighed 160 at my peak, 5'11".
I'm 28 now, and I've been running on and off to keep in shape since college, nowhere near where I was, but it doesn't take much work for me to maintain 18:00 5K shape at least. However, I've done hardly any weight work, and I realized last winter that I was down to 140 and could put my hand around my upper arm in places!
Ashamed, I started doing various push-ups and also going to a park to do pull-ups and dips. I've been totally amazed at the results! I've been doing this twice a week for several months now, and I'm back over 150, at 15 pull-ups and have added inches back to my arms and chest. All without a weight room. Anybody else do stuff like this, or am I just creepy for going to the playground without having kids of my own?
