I have a few marathons under my belt, and am still trying to get it right. My Pr is 3:31 and would love to go under that at Philly this November.
I have been consistantly been doing 40-45 miles per week since my last marathon in the spring. we are starting to up the mileage to around 50-55(which we did for the last marathon) and I find that I can handle the mileage, but am feeling so tight and slow on our speed days. My group and I have been doing our quick day on tues, longer tempo on thurs
and semi long on sat and long on sunday.I take Fridays off religiously. I know that I would perform much better on the quality days if I took at least another day off once in a while if not every week.
So my question is, how important is the overall weekly mileage? If all my training is the same except I take off 1 more easy day a week can I expect to have a similar marathon? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
I have been running for 28 years but only marathoning for the last 3.
