Just curious to hear opinions of at what height does altitude training start at. I know places like Flagstaff are around 6000 ft but does one get a training affect from working out at say 2-3000?

3000 feet is not going to get it done.
6000 is tricky/borderline.
It is less the "training" than the "living" at altitude.
I would recommend getting to 7500 feet to 9000 feet.
just for clarification - flagstaff is 7000ft.
There was a guy named El Gerrouj who was pretty good in his day, his altitude training was at 5500ft
Focus on high attitude training. You'll get much better results.
There was a guy named Bob Kennedy who was pretty good for an american in his day. His altitude training was at 100ft.Obviously if your racing at altitude, you want to make sure you training at that height. After there are other things more important than worrying about if you are at 5000ft or 6500ft.

I don't worry about altitude, I focus on running faster.
