Too good to play? The opposing coach took his team off the field? This boggles the mind.

It is a little rediculous to ban the kid from pitching because he's too good but there are other points to consider. It's not the majors. All the kids want to enjoy the game and learn to play better. If this pitcher is so good that no one can possibly get a hit, it's not helping the opposing team develop. If the opposing team kids are too afraid to go against this pitcher that's no good either. Perhaps a good solution is to let the pitcher play in that position maybe two innings a game then let someone else pitch. He can play other positions for the rest of the game. Kids should learn all positions at this age, not just the ones they like.
I do agree that there are lots of changes over the past several years that make me wonder what parents/schools are thinking, like banning dodgeball, making sure every kid feels like a winner in everything..... Kids gotta learn that there are winners and losers. They've just gotta find what things they are winners at.
"New Haven, CT"
if you read the article, you will conclude that they banned him either because he was about to lead his team to a playoff win over management's favorite team or because he is black.
Well we all know the deal with that other very young, talented, hyper-athletic, prodigy..its gotta be EPO.
I'm so confused.
What did he do wrong? Threw too hard?
Is the league run by a bunch of race walkers?
This sounds like a couple whiny adults who want to put together a winning team, but when the best pitcher wouldn't join their team, they had to come up with some other way to rig the league.
My heart really goes out to this kid. I can't believe their trying to make it out to be his fault. He's way to young to have to deal with adult BS.
Whenever I see a horrible story regarding humanity, I always think "Huh, I could see something like that happening here." Then I find out the story does take place in CT and I sadly laugh and shake my head.
We don't get weird stories about asses fusing to toilets or amazingly fat people, just stories about people ignoring hit and runs, brutal home invasions, and of course, corrupt officials.
I say we get Letsrun as a whole to back the little guy and make the entire Little League Disban and redistribute the players.
The easiest solution is to move the kid 'up' to the next older age group, where he'll fit in. This has been done before with good success.
yeah, Wayne Gretzky faced the same kind of non-sense when he was young and look how he turned out.
Yeah, it is easy to say that the league is wrong, but the article states that it is a beginners coed league so the league is not for him. It sounds like there are other leagues available in the area so why can't he go to a more competitive league? It would probably even benefit him more if he is with better competition at an early age. He obviously excels so playing with older kids might help.

Nice! My hometown!
I wonder if they tried to move him up to the next level tactfully before banning him. You know, asking his mother nicely and kissing his butt a little ("your son is so advanced for his age he can compete with the 11 year olds!") before outright banning him. How stupid this all is.

It's even more ridiculous to not know how to spell "ridiculous."
The article said that mom called the police. Pity the cop who had to respond to that foolish call.
And it's beyond rediculous that you call me out on this one. You must be a recent addition here, newb.

So let me get this straight: A 9-year-old throws a 40mph fastball and no one can hit it?
With all due respect to young players who are developing their skills, what kind of wimps are in this league. My 6-year-old and a third of his teammates can rake 40mph pitches all over the freaking yard. I don't get it....

This is exactly what happened to me when I was a kid and it worked out perfectly. Move the best kids up an age division or two so they can play with children his skill level. Problem solved.

Yeah, that seems odd. Either they got the MPH wrong or the mound is really close or something. They did say it was was a developmental league of both boys and girls which was focusing on skill building and that there seemed to be another league available to kids who were more skilled, but 40 MPH doesn't seem like much at all.
When I was 11 and played Little League, there was this kid pitcher in the league who was already 6 feet tall and just mowed us all down every time we faced him. No one told him he couldn't play. He'd also hit a couple of home runs each game.
Telling a kid he can't play because he throws 40 MPH is crazy. Sounds like the kid's mother didn't deal with it in the right way, but still, her kid should be allowed to play. Exclusion is what makes kids join gangs.
