Posting this a little late on account of travel . . . but really trying to stick to a regular weekly thread.
I’ve started ending my easy runs at a nearby track. The surface is nice and springy, which I need these days, and I just like seeing other people out doing their thing. The other day, a triathlete was working out. I knew he was a triathlete because he was wearing a gaudy, skin-tight shirt advertising something called “3-D” (for “3 Disciplines”). He was also wearing half tights, a high-tech stretchy bandanna thingie on his head, and an elaborate fuel belt. (I thought the fuel belt was a nice touch: because, you know, if you hit the wall at 200 meters, it would be horrible to have to crawl across the field to get to your stashed water bottle.) So, anyhow, he ran a lap in about – this is a guess, based on his pace relative to mine – 1:45. At which point he threw himself on the ground, panting.
(I’m not a hater – triathletes, racewalkers, Gallowalkers, live and let live – but when someone goes out of their way to personify the stereotype, you have to giggle a little.)
So, let's hear about your training, racing, running (not to mention encounters with triathletes).
