I ran 400m in 62s in 8th grade. I was one of the best at that distance on my middle school team. But then I got into other things, and didn't run in high school or college.
In grad school, I started running again, doing marathons. I have a marathon PR of 3:08, but when I get on the track, I can't run less than 80s for 400m.
Have I completely lost my ability to sprint, because of my marathon training? Have my fast-twitch fibers converted to slow-twitch? Do you think I could ever run 63s again? If I could lower my 400m time, do you think that would help me in the marathon?
