I'm 25, used to be decent, had a few comebacks, been off for about a year, overweight, trying to drop the pounds first, blah blah blah...
I've purchased a HRM because I have always had trouble maintaining the proper effort. In turn, this lead to me worrying that I wasn't going hard enough, then probably overdoing it, and quitting. The threads here on HRMs mainly address their use for people in shape (ie -- for use in workouts/tempo runs).
As someone starting back at ground zero (yesterday's untimed three-miler included some walking), how can I most benefit from an HRM? Should I be looking for a certain rate and just sticking with it? As my body is most definitely going to be going through some growing pains in the coming weeks/months, will an HRM even be accurate? How should I respond to keeping a good heart rate when I am going to be building up miles fairly constantly?
