With that particular workout, the 10 mile tempo, I think Canova would say to progress in terms of "extension". This means making the length of the run longer, but at the same pace. 12 miles is more specific to a marathon race than 10 miles. You could even run a tad closer to marathon pace as you extend the distance of your run (which probably would mean your pace would be a little slower than on the 10 mile training run.) Anyways, that's my guess on what Canova would choose.
