Does anyone have a recap and/or splits from this race?
Great.
So rather than going home she's on the road and living out of a suitcase for the opportunity to race against Gallo, Donaghue, Uceny, and the like...
That's a very good (and funny) observation!
hey 4runner, the real surprise in that race is Donohue not winning. Hats off to Uceny.
uceny is slowly moving up the ranks watch out now!
I thought the same too, but really this looks like a tune up before she runs in Paris this weekend.
Not like she really is going after the 800...

Rowbury's 800 is nothing to worry about. Unless you've done it, it's hard to understand what it's like to go overseas and race. The first race off the plane is often not the greatest. Hopefully she took it easy for a bit after the Trials and then ran this low-key, tune-up race. It's not a big deal. Now she has several days to relax, adjust to the time change, and be ready for Paris. Being there is still the best thing for her.
but she woudn't have wanted to be beaten into 4th with winner only clocking a 2'01
she can run a 2'03 in her sleep
it may have been better to have skipped this race, gone directly to paris, relax, put in some training & await the 1500
i doubt this race was useful in any way

Emmm, I think that Ruth Wysocki knows EXACTLY what she is talking about...first hand...and for what it is worth, I concur...Lignano was an opportunity for Rowbury to re-gain her sea legs before going into a more consequential contest in Paris...she will be just fine.
she ran last 800 of trials in 2'05
she runs 2'03 here
she couda got her "sea-legs" on the paris track in a training run today or tomorrow if she'd felt the need to
seems the trip to this place was a waste of time, air-fare & hotel costs
Then why stepping of a plane and racing didn't affect Uceny? She did after all run all the rounds and finals of the 800 and 1500 at the trials. Why are we giving Rowbury an excuse?
It was a RACE, not a TIME TRIAL. The winner did not run that fast, either. The point was to get in a low-key comp before Paris. In Paris, again the point is get some experience COMPETING against people she will probably face in Beijing -- not running a specific time to suit anyone. A fast time would be a bonus -- the competition is the point.
who's to say she didn't arrive 2 or 3 days before rowbury ?
take in a bit of sight-seeing & adjust body-clock better ?
Hey Shannon. It's quite clear from watching your season progress, and your wonderful run at the Trials, that you and your Coach know exactly what is going on.
Congratulations, and all the best for Beijing!
I'm not saying that the 2:03 isn't disappointing, but it's not necessarily anything to worry about. She will do better in Paris for having done it. Again, unless you've been there and tried to do what she's doing, you can't understand what it's like. Also, different people react in different ways to the travel. The 800 isn't her primary event. I can definitely relate to someone who isn't at their best in the first race off the plane. None of us knows what she's been doing since the Trials. Maybe she took a few easy days or a few days off. All I'm saying is that this 800 doesn't mean anything one way or the other. Also, comparing a small meet in Italy to the atmosphere and Grand Prix treatment in Paris is not possible. I think we'll see much better from her in Paris.

there have been plenty of athletes who have lived out of a suitcase & put in excellent performances week in week out, so i'm afraid that excuse won't work
check the flowtrack interview- uceny said she would be home long enough to do some laundry before heading over to italy. so, she just didnt get off the plane...
