Training Run Intensity

I am a moderate/low mileage runner. My peak mileage this summer will be 65 miles, but I will do a lot of those weeks. Over the past winter, I grazed 65 miles once and my intensity was right around 6:45 per mile. This summer I originally planned to drop my intensity down to 6:30 per mile and do more consistent mileage, but I have been running under 6:20 for a lot of my runs. I feel great running that quickly, and the mileage is easy, but I am wondering whether I should chill the pace out to keep myself safe from injuries, or should I keep it up? I want to improve a lot this fall, and I respond best to higher intensity training, so I'd like to get my intensity down before I start upping my mileage too much. Any advice?

Yah, malmo. I'm not an elite runner. I'm 16. This time last summer, my training runs were around 7:00, so I'm stepping it up. I thought you of all people would not make generalizations about training since every runner is different and in different stages of training.

Well slow is relative to the person, malmo. If you're not doing any constructed workouts over the summer then you need to be running as fast as possible while still feeling "easy". Don't worry about your pace too much - as you become more fit the pace will naturally get faster. It's the effort your after. Your body doesn't know the difference between 6:30 and 6:40 pace it just knows its working harder/easier...

hell, go 530 pace if it feels easy - just don't fool yourself.

If you're 16 then you are running really fast. Again, if it feels easy, it is easy. No need to slow down. Your body tells you everything you need to know. Listen to it.
