hi, currently im training my little sister for high school for her first xc season. we started off her training by a time trial of a mile and she ran 7:35. after a week of 16 miles and pure base, no speed work, she ran a 6:48. how much potential do you think she has in the mile and 2 mile? we are training for a 2 mile btw. im planning of getting her up to 40 miles by the end of the summer and it will include some sort of intervals. also, what do you think she can run a 2 mile in right now?
probably high 14s low 15s for a 2-mile right now. I'd say sub-14:00 by season's end is a worthy goal.

shes 14. she already said shes up to the challenge... but i guess 40 miles is overdoing it... how much should she do?
Forty miles is overdoing it for someone who just started running, I think. I want to say that 20 miles is a lot. We had a very good girls team in high school and I don't think they were running 5 miles four times a week in grade 9.
25 sounds just about right
40-50 kilometers a week would be plenty. i'd say, concentrate more on the actual sessions than making her run lots k's on her recovery days.
we ran a time trail today on a 2 mile and she ran a 14:17!!! i think she can definitely go under 13:30 in 2 months and hopefully under 13:00 by november. whats better, a 6:48 mile or a 14:17 2 mile?
40 miles a week isn't too much as long as the majority of it is fairly easy running.
