A few years ago, I advised a co-worker on how to train for his first marathon. I set a target for him of 4 hours. He ran it in 4:01. All throughout, I gave him great advice, monitored his progress, encouraged him and kept him from injury with wise training. He's done 4 marathons in the 3 years that have passed, has improved his PR by 20 minutes and is never injured.
I, on the other hand, do all the wrong things. I get injured, take a few days off, then hit the training at high intensity to catch up. I don't stretch. I don't sleep enough. Something always hurts and soon, I'm injured again. I take a few days off, restart my training at too high an intensity, etc., etc.
Anybody else guilty of "Do as I say, not as I do?"
