He seriously has the potential to run 13:30ish for 5k. Why not step into an all-comers meet and give it a shot? Sure it was cool when Webb and Sage ran in the Pre Classic mile, but this would be even cooler.

what would be the purpose of him competing in the olympics at this stage of his career??
do you want him to set the world record for most olympic appearences in a lifetime or something?? wheres the fire?? he better get started now if hes gonna make 5 appearences before he retires (sarcasm)
Hell, the way he doubles, I'd do both the mile and 5k at Pre!!!
Even though he did run an incredible double, I think 13:30 is a bit outlandish. I could see him going under 13:50, but 13:30 is just going too far.
Give him until 2012. If he can go without too many injuries, I think he could be in the low 13:teens by then. If I was German, I'd focus on another couple of really good races, including the NON 2 mile where he will face two guys who have also been considerably sub 8:50 very recently. Too bad Derrick has mono, otherwise German might still have his hands full coming down the homestretch.
Eugene, OR - Luke Puskedra, who signed with the Oregon Ducks on March 18th, will be attempting to break the U.S. 2-mile record this weekend in a special invitational race at the Prefontaine Classic.
The senior will be paced through the race by at least one rabbit who will take him out at a blistering 4:15 per mile pace with the goal of running somewhere in the 8:30 range. The current high school two-mile record was set by Jeff Nelson of Burbank High in 1979 at 8:36.3.
Puskedra ran a PR of 8:49.58 to win the Nike Indoor Nationals earlier this year on a 200 meter non-banked indoor track. Some of the nation-leading high school 2-mile times over the last decade that he bested were: Josh McDougal, 8:50.40, 2004; Galen Rupp, 8:54.45, 2004; Chris Solinsky, 8:56.26, 2003; Dathan Ritzenhein, 8:50.4, 2001; and Andy Powell, 8:50.29, 1999. This will be Puskedra's first appearance at Hayward Field.

13:30 is probably not going too far. He is solidly under 13:50. Think collegiately, it would be pretty tough for a guy to run ~343 (he split 3:44 en route) and 8:01 (he split 8:03-04 en route) by themselves with a 2 hour break, by themselves.
Not to say that he can do 13:30.00 without a doubt but he is def in shape to run sub 13:40.
Trials B standard =13:28 with 24 field size
For goodness sake, stop calling it Oly's! It's the freakin' Olympics! What kind of shorthand is Oly supposed to be? It sounds like some kind of dorkish geek thing, so stop, already.

Actually the trials standard is 13:33 "A" & 13:50 "B" with a field limeted to 24. I'm not sure where you came up with 13:28?
German ran 14:24 all by himself at Woodward park in cross country that has to be worth about 13:50 on a track with competition and that was last fall. German's 4:00/ 8:34 indicates that he could probably go through 8 laps in about 8:40 reasonably relaxed. If he can carry that pace to the finish thats 13:32 for a 5k. So really its not that outlandish.
