Didn't start the thread last week, so feel free to post highlights of your Memorial Day weekend, too!
I ran in my local Race for the Cure yesterday, as I'd vowed to do after my friend Laura died of breast cancer late last year (I was diagnosed a few months later). After three cycles of chemo, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I told myself just to be grateful I could run (and I am, I am!), but when you're entered in a race, it's hard to get out of that racing mindset.
I ended up holding about 7 minute pace, much better than I had any right to expect. The cap I was wearing blew off at about the 1 mile mark, so I ran most of the course bald-headed. (Now, *that* should make for some memorable race pictures.)
Under any other circumstances, being bald in public would have totally mortified me. But racing is different, and that got me thinking: isn't it great how running hard forces us to get past our vanity and self-consciousness? I'm not saying women runners don't care about our appearance etc. etc. - but we're also capable of getting out there and grunting and grimacing and sweating and letting the snot and spittle fly. Thank goodness most of us clean up pretty well!
Hope everyone else had a good running week, too (looking forward to hearing about your training and racing).
