Has always been talented and she did not train to her potential in college.....her mileage was quite low for the level she was at.
Congrats and keep up the great work.
You telling me that she drops from 412 to 407 to 401... in three races... legitimately....
NO way... does this actually happen??
Observation 1: The Letsrun community of armchair coaches and physiologists writes copiously lauding the virtues of superior training and potential performance improvements.
Observation 2: The Letsrun community reflexively, anonomously, and ignorantly accuses those who dramatically improve their performance of drug use.
Paradox: A person or thing that is made up of contradictory elements.
Great job Shannon! She has always been an amazing talent, but her coaching change, new training program, and not having to deal with Duke academics are probably all contributing to her success.
It does when your PR was in college and then you get a stress fracture and are out for a long while and then turn pro, get a great coach, great training partners, and devote all your passion into something, and train like a banshee. She is clean as the driven snow.
What an excellent runner. So balanced! Can anyone provide a link to the result?
I spoke to Shannon at the Cardinal qualifier at Stanford and she was really happy to be back in her native San Francisco, and to have finally finished up her graduate program . . . Now, she was just trying to figure out WHO to train with cause it was getting kind of difficult to organize schedules with various training partners.
Shannon came through the 1200m mark in 3:14 and blew the rest of the field away today. Wurth-Thomas was pretty far back, but at least she finally got a qualifier to the Trials out of this race. I believe this makes Shannon the 5th fastest American at this distance.
CONGRATULATIONS SHANNON ROWBURY!!!

EDIT:
Take Regina Jacobs off this list and Miss Rowbury is the 4th fastest at this distance for an American woman . . .
3:57.12 Mary Decker Slaney
3:57.40 Suzy Favor Hamilton
4:00.18 Ruth Wysocki
4:00.35 Regina Jacobs (cheater)
4:01.61 Shannon Rowbury
4:01.79 Diana Richburg
4:02.61 Janice Merrill
4:02.85 Marla Runyan
Take Mary Decker off and she's number 3. (Not that I believe Decker was doping when she ran 3:57, but she did when she was got older, and I think if you dope you should have ALL results negated.)
I was a little dissapointed Sara Hall faded bad after going with the pacemaker at the start.
Yes...Decker was doping when she ran the 3:57...She just got caught when she got older. Rowbury 3rd imo.

She went out waaaaay too fast!
Something like a 61-high or 62-low during the first 400m.
I really think she's more of a 5000m runner. That is her better event. I think her PR for the 1500m is somewhere around 4:09 while her 5000m is 15:20
i'm sure decker ran <4'01 at a young age, long before any drug suspicions & thus still top 3
Decker ran very fast in the 800 m. @ age 14 or 15. No surprise she could run sub 4:00, she was just a fantastic talent. Rowbury, also, must be an exceptional talent.
Because I know lots of fantastically talented female runners who spent a whole career trying to run close to 4 minutes for the 1500. Who knows what Rowbury has done in her training that sets her apart?
It was however a very tactical race and his splits of :68, 2:07, 3:03 show the potential for a serious world record attempt on his part.
great coach (john cook), great training partners (erin donohue, shalane flanagan), tons of strenght work.the object of their training is to be able to finish strong.this group is cutting edge for female middle and long distance running in the US.
did you notice donohue winning the 800 in a breezing 2:02.

Perhaps, but she has been back in the San Francisco Bay Area for about a month now and is struggling to find people to train with.
Congrats to Shannon!

I don't know if you should be shot simply for being ignorant or beheaded just for being a douchebag, but either way you qualify for a severe and terminal form of punishment.
Fantastic, stupendous, I am so elated for a great person and an amazing talent. Shannon, stay healthy, eat well,
and go for the Gold!
