I wrote an email to the Ft. Worth paper that championed RJ as an athlete who was going strong at 40, only problem was the article came out several days after her drug bust. I couldn't believe it, but I actually got a response today...
I'm the reporter who wrote Sunday's story about Regina Jacobs and other female athletes over 40. I received your message about Jacobs' drug use, and I wanted to explain what happened.
The story is a mishap of unfortunate timing. It was published in our Sunday Life section, which is a pre-printed section---that section goes to press on
Wednesdays, several days before it's delivered.
I wrote the story almost two weeks ago, and by the time the news broke on Thursday about Regina Jacobs, it was far too late to change things; the Sunday section had already been printed, and there was no going back.
I hope you'll forgive us for promoting an athlete who's been busted for steroid use---but please know we wouldn't do that intentionally. If we could have taken her out of the story, we would have.
Thanks for your feedback.

Just thought I'd post this to prove that the media aren't all ignrant as we'd like to believe it haha. And also to shed a little light on why the article made it through in the first place.
