During our 6x1 mile rep track workout tonight I had to pull out after the 4th rep due to total exhaustion. Coach was not amused and made me feel like an outcast. Has anyone else felt this humiliation and a let down to your team and coach?

If this moment represents your greatest feeling of humiliation then you are extremely lucky. My senior year of college I went out with the leaders at XC nationals for the first 2 miles--4:35, 9:35--(I probably should have gone out in 5:05 or so) and people passed me the entire race as I stuggled to maintain 5:30 pace. I think I finished in 200th place. On the second loop around the course my coach turned his back rather than having to look at me.
Oh man yes. Once I was having problems due to asthma and I couldn't finish. I felt like a piece of crap because I'm usually the one pushing everyone else. As long as you feel like you're letting your team down I wouldn't sweat it. It's when you feel like that's okay that there's a problem. So let yourself be ashamed and then when you're in a position to do so, whip the crap out of your body working to make up for letting it beat you this time.
F*** that. It's a workout. If you're completely exhausted by the 4th rep during a workout then the workout is either too hard or something is wrong with your body. Perhaps you haven't recovered enough from a previous workout. Perhaps you're dehydrated. Maybe you're iron is low. The fact that you're distraught about it probably means you're normally a hard worker and wouldn't just puss out because you're afraid of a little pain. Besides that, it wouldn't have been doing you or your team any good to keep running the last couple reps if you couldn't keep up the pace.
If this were a big race and you just punked out under the pressure or made a really stupid move, that might be reason to give you an ear full. But during a workout? Your coach is a dick.
The real question to be asked: Why were you racing a workout?
If you feel this beat up after a session of mile repeats I fail to see the positive benefits it is going to have for you this late in the season.
Or maybe you just had a really crappy day, don't fret about it. Your coach is an ass for ripping you in front of the team.
correction: Maybe your iron is low.

Your coach is the outcast. Ignore him.
You will have good days and bad ones, it all goes with the territory. How you deal with your bad days is a testament to your character and a stepping stone to your ultimate success.
11:54 2 mile at an invitational indoor meet. Not my event, not a good day to start with, and yes I was doubling back, but some guys lapped me twice, and my own team was in stitches. I came off the track and the coach said "that's the last time you ever run the 2", which was fine with me.
I ran 8 laps in 10:59 two days later after practice just to get my confidence back.
