I've seen the thread about the end of Footlocker and I too am a purist and really think Footlocker XCs is special. The 40 best runners in the country for all the marbles.
But instead of bitching about Nike's power play, the question is what can we do to ensure that Foolocker continues as the national individual championship.
Everyone is just assuming Footlocker will roll over and die but I do not think that is the case.
As long as the top individuals continue to go to the Footlocker Regionals and Nationals it will continue to be seen as the national champs. The thing that makes high school so different from college is that the top runners are mostly not on top teams so it is very easy to keep the races separate. Red Town XC club (or whatever the teams are called instead of their real names) doesn't resonate with most people like the University of Tennessee.
So the question is for those of you who really like Footlocker's like myself, how do we ensure it keeps going?
This thread isn't intended to discuss Nike's motives or the merits of a team championship.
If you strongly believe in having the 1 race as Nike proposes feel free to email me as I'm open to being persuaded (email above) or discuss it in another thread. This thread is for people who want to keep Footlocker's going.
