First of all, I am completely against Drug use in this sport. If you are not able to perform at the top level beyond your natural disposition, then it may be time to pack it up...
Thinking back on the past 8 years of what i've come to know about Regina Jacobs; encounters, impressions, second hand accounts, TV and Media coverage, I discovered the following things:
She was normally very abrasive, and unengaging. If you ever saw her hanging out with anyone other than her husband, it was definitely something to take note of, as it was a rarity.
She was never buddy buddy with her competition, nor other fellow athletes in general.
She acted isolated.

Back in the good ole (T-and-F email listserver circa '95-'96), days, I used to closet root for RG, largely due to the then RG vs. Suzy F. Hamilton debates. I felt that RG was unfairly denigrated, largely due to her ethnicity and/or Non Suzy Looks. (this debate was before we started looking for yet another U.S. standout because SFH was soon to start blowing her big races anyway.) Despite her boogywomanizing ways, (yes you can steal that phrase), I kind of dug it when RG almost won in '97 at Worlds, that was a cool ass race.

What I'm saying is, in retrospect it seems as if she acted as if she knew what she was doing was wrong. Were we deceived? Yes. But at least she didn't act like she was having a ball while doing it.
And for some reason, that observation (that she was a willing, but not extremely happy deceiver), doesn't make me lose as much respect vs. someone who has completely conned us with a smile, then put a knife in our back.
Am I completely loopy or does this make sense to anyone??
