indeed, humbled, good job on the mileage. like you, rnrpac, i've been somewhat haphazard in my training lately, which largely means that i haven't been doing targeted pace work of any kind, but instead making sure i get in some "tempo effort" miles at least once a week. my overall mileage has been high -- silly high, in fact, at 98 this week -- but i've been just going by feel and doing most of it in the woods.
tuesday morning, however, i had a mammogram schedule and decided to run to the hospital since it was a nice day and if i'm going to do a road run, it might as well be a "destination run." did the 11.5 miles there at just a little slower than marathon pace because i didn't want to be late. checked in, got changed into one of those lovely robes, sat around for a while bandaiding up some recurring blisters (from wearing actual road shoes a few days previously), and then found out that the computer associated with the mammo instrument was down. so back home by a quieter and slightly longer route, and then straight into an ice bath, largely to soothe the feet. i would have preferred a long trail run instead, i still have to go back for the test next month.
anyway, i made up for the time on the road by doing 19 on forest trails on saturday; 26K race plus a few more jogging the first portion of the course to take down ribbons and arrows for the race director.
i've been enjoying the high miles, but need to start taking it down a bit since i'll be attempting another 50-mile race in two weeks and recognize that i have some resting up to do.
on the family front, i received very pleasant mother's day calls from my two daughters (ages 23 and 21) and none from my 18-yr-old son, but has a way of being absent-minded, so i don't take it personally. it was nice to spend the day as a homebody by gardening, baking bread, perusing evergreen hedge web sites (thinking about trying to block out noisy neighbors a bit), and going for a light trail run.
happy trails, all.
