Here is a link to a nice interview with Nolan. He is a super person and competitor, but to partially answer your question,he does the vast majority of his training on the track. Not surprising given his day job, he's a rhythm runner who uses the track to manage his pace.

Haa! i will verry soon have all of Nolans records....ieeeeee...can you dig it? You understand ? I feel the blood boiling up in my belly.
hes rail thin and despite living the musicians life has taken great care of himself.
i could only hope to be limping along half as fast as he runs when im that age and also be that thin.
He's a speed freak. He does lots of fast 200s.
World record holder for age 50+ at 800m (1:58).
The article was fascinating. He does no workouts between July and December.
Musician by day. World-class runner by night. Does it get any better than that?

4.43 Mile is hardly a world-class runner !
58 year old man running 4:43 is spectacular and worth about 3:51 age graded for men 20-30 years old.....

Turns 59 in July. Running 2:07 this season. Pretty good.
He may have run 1:53.9 around age 45, which is pretty amazing, perhaps Sorensen will run 1:53 and 3:52 1500 at age 45, still more amazing.
Also don't forget he eats 1 meal a day. Thats right, once a day.
I wonder when he runs in relation to his meal...
wowowowow
World record holder, musician, class act!

...
I stuffed myself at a buffet on Mothers day and still had to eat again before I went to bed and I weigh 130 lbs. I couldn't imagine only eating once a day.

If I remember right he doesn't eat at all on Sundays, is vegetarian, and no alchohol.
Thanks for sharing the article!
Part of Shaheed's notoriety seems to come from his fast times, but refreshingly, that's not the only thing he's about... on the track or off.
