He's just doin it for fun. obviously he's not training like a mad man... I don't expect much from him in these marathons anyway
Exactly. Why can't the guy just have some fun? He's not trying to be a world class marathoner. His super hardcore competitive days are over. Now he wants to take it easy. I don't blame him.
Just seems a shame that RW has more on Lance running Boston than on the women's trials.

I agree, and in RW this month Chris Carmichael claims that Lance's Tuesday night workout includes a 8-10 mile tempo run at 5:20 pace. I personally do not see Lance training, but I'm calling complete BS on this.
He must be more relaxed now that he doesn't have to pay all that money to Ferrari for "training" "advice"... But I'm sure it's also less of a problem re-infusing his blood, now that he's not being tested any more....
A shame that he gets more press? Of course he will. Just like it is a shame that Joan B. (big fan of hers) will get more press at 50 than the contenders.
Papers and magazines are just trying to make sales.
Too bad the cover of the new RW promises readers will find out how LA is training for a 2:40.
Maybe he is lowering expectations, but really shooting for 2:40.
in RW they really hyped lance to run somewhere in the 2:45's..... And also stated that he had even bigger goals for NYC. seems like it was all a ploy to get people to buy the mag. unless he is sandbagging?????

I agree that it sucks that a retired athlete from a different sport gets more press than the top american runner, or the top runner period, or any of the real contenders. It also sucks that any famous person who runs a marathon gets more press than the people who have actually trained hard and commited to racing fast. Sure the papers/magazines are just trying to make sales but its the magazines and newspapers in the first place that chose not to ever talk about elite running or the world's best runners the way they do about other sports and their top athletes. The only reason running is unpopular is because the media doesn't cover it enough for the average american to apprecite what a good time in a race is, the way we know how good an interception in football or a fade away 3-point in b-ball is. The only reason the media won't cover running is because americans don't know enough to appreciate it. It's a vicious cycle. Honestly if top distance racing performances around the world were covered like any other sport then your neighbor would know how impressive a sub 2:10 would be on Boston would ask you if you thought so and so could do it this year while you both put the trash out for the morning. Then newspapers would have no qualms about honestly assessing the front runners and the real race.
... my 2 cents.
It's neither: they're just different 'longs' - pro cyclists have to do 6 - 8hr training rides as many races are over six hours.

No, it's a simple fact of both sports.

Well RW is not a good magazine, so that answers that. All RW is a magazine for people who fancy themselves "runners" you should never take anything they say seriously. I honestly feel like Amby Burfoot is sometimes ashamed at what he has to write to get his articles published, but of course i forgive him, every once and a while he has great things to say. He should of course being the greatest road runner ever from CT. And whats wrong with Lance getting the publicity? I agree that the trials are clearly more important, but still Lance has been the face of "non-traditional" sports for the last 10 years in America. You all are forgetting that he was once a tri-athlete. he knows how to run, he proved it by debuting with a 3 hr marathon (not bad), I am willing to bet the house that while the 8-10 mile tempo at 5:20 might be a little exaggerated, he is training, and he will be ready, thats just who Lance is.
Good luck to all who are running Boston!!!!
LA was one of the best athletes in the world. He is famous. Of course he's gonna get more print time because he sells more magazines. It's always interesting to see what a top athlete is doing.
RW is not a purist magazine anyway.
The fact that you all know what goes on in Runnes World kida scares me. Stop reading the rag, and you'll feel better. And if Lance makes for great press, so what? Truth is that most Americans are too fat and lazy to care about running. Doubtful that will change soon.
