That one guy, you know, what's his name. No one ever talks about him. ;)
Probably Rosa Mota.
Alan Webb
In terms of least talked about elite athletes since WW2, there are probably a number of them. My vote would go for Adrian Andenmatten, the anchor man for the Swiss gold medal team in the 1948 Olympic military patrol event. I don't think he has been mentioned once on these boards. Of course, that is a team event which might account for the lack of visibility.

What was the military patrol event?
Dave Patrick of 1970ish Villaova fame
This thread is a paradox. Naming a runner on this post automatically makes them not the least discussed elite since WWII on Letsrun.
Sandor Iharos.
only 42 mentions incl metro gnomes for a guy who set WRs at 1500,5,000twice and 10,000
Not Jim Grelle, I've mentioned him on this board a few times.

It was the precursor to biathlon.
If you're talking American distance runners I would include Rick Wolhuter, Don Paige, and Jim Beatty.
If ever do you see a thread on: What could Rick Wolhuter have run for a marathon? or Don Paige vs. Nick Symmonds at 1000m-- who would win?
some facts. wrote:

and the biathlon...?
I don't think I've ever been mentioned on this board. My name is Tom Lawler and for the mile and 2 mile I have run 4:43 and 10:06, just in case anyone wnts to talk about me.
Fred Wilt.
He was a runner, writer and coach in the 1950's.
Bob McMillen, U.S. silver medalist in the 1500 in 1952 Olympics
I think Dick Beurkle has gone a bit "under the radar" here.
