I don't remember hearing anything about her back then.

She had a steady progression of times I believe running a 4:46 mile by the time she was a senior. She was definetly goo, but not a 14-year old prodigy which you often see from female distance runners. Her career is certainly become something a bit bigger than could have been expected..
Won Millrose HS mile 4:54.84, 2nd in NSI (first U.S.) 4:46.91, 3 Mass XC titles, and won US Junior XC. Never made it to Foot Locker due to injuries.
3-time state CC champion: 1997, 1998, 1999

more like she always blew up in the FL qualifying race
She was an amazing cross country runner in high school, but she would always go out at a ridiculous pace at Foot Locker regionals and pass out/drop out. She'd be winning by what looked like 20 seconds at the mile mark and then not finish.
winning at the mile mark? do they have a special prize for that?
Yeah, It's called learning your lessons (sometimes you have to learn muliple times before they sink in) and moving on. I think she has proven herself.

where did barrientos go to college?
that was one of the hottest years in girls track.
If memory serves, Cal. Never heard much from her after HS, compared to the others behind her on the list.
Barrientos went to UCLA. She had a good collegiate career, perhaps not what many expected after her outstanding high school career, but good enough that 95% of the posters on here would be jealous. From what I hear, she is training again. You never know. Michelle Lillienthal was another who had a solid but not outstanding collegiate career. She started running longer after college, ran a few marathons, now holds a 2:35 PR and (presuming she is healthy) probably will run at the 2008 Trials.
What happened to Anita Siraki?
Siraki went to Stanford and also had a good collegiate career - 33:30ish for 10k, pretty good cross career. Stanford had so many talented runners during that stretch - Siraki, Bei, Craig, Fleshman, Goff, Elmore, Sullivan, McWalters, the Trotters - and I'm sure I'm missing some.
I'm not sure what Siraki has been up to since, haven't heard anything. I think she graduated in 2006. If anybody else has info, it would be interesting to know what she's doing now, whether she's running, etc.
