also lists what meets Jeremy will probably run in before Olympics, possibility of Penn Relays.
seems like Ford is kind of stabbing Clyde in the back doesn't it? I mean I actually understand where Jeremy is coming from to a certain extent. Its his job. If he feels like he can do as well and make more money under someone else Clyde Hart shouldnt take that personally. Its simple economics. On the other hand it seems like Ford is undercutting Clyde a little bit.
I see what you're saying, but on the same hand, what's ford supposed to do, turn down coaching the guy who could very well end up being the greatest 400 runner of all time.
I'm not mad at JW's choice, because in reality, he's getting the same coaching for less, any business would make the same move. On othe other hand, if 10% of his potential earnings this year was too much, then he could have done something like, "you get 10% of my winnings up to $100,000" or something like that.
Either way, I don't think that we'll know the full impact until well after the olympics if not a year after to be honest.
Remember when that kid from michigan left his legendary coach to go back to someone with no elite experience and everyone ripped him a new asshole for a year or two... well, it worked out in the end right... so for now, i'm going to say that the move is fine, but we'll all know in the end if it was the right thing or not.
CAMMAN... someone give me the inside dirt on this.
I want the DIRT, dammit!
Get some investigative reporters on that man.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - should retake econ and business ad 101. You sound lost on basic business principles. Neither Ford nor Wariner did any thing wrong.
Wow, the "author" of that interview (Marc R. Grosso) is a horrible writer. Ironic that he calls himself "Dr." Track.
I was a 400 man who was always coached by ex distance runners. I ALWAYS thought I knew more about the event than they did. I was not a champion like Wariner but sure would not have handed over much for their coaching, they were much more interested in xc and the milers.
I wonder where Wairmer and Ford will be going.
Since they're not staying with Hart, at Baylor.
Dr. Track: Where will Wariner train this year? Are the Baylor facilities still available to him?Ford: Yes, the Baylor facilities are still available to him. So, he will continue to train at Baylor.I met with Todd Harbour (Baylor Head Coach), Clyde Hart, and Tom Hill (the Faculty representative fro Track and Field) to discuss this. Everyone is OK with Jeremy continuing to train at Baylor. So, nothing will change from previous years.

Yes, but that legendary coach wasn't helping him go nearly unbeaten on the world stage the past 3 years.
That's gonna be a bit awkward though!
My guess is that Wariner and Williamson training together again might be good for both of them.

The author jacked my quote from the sprintzone board.

Surprised nobody called you on this.
Same coaching for less? Really? So every internet hack who reads Hart's training methodologies can be just as good as the guy with 40+ years experience? Every runner who ever ran under him as well?
So, if I read Buffets annual shareholder's report enough, I can invest just like the man himself?
One of the problems with the Internet and running: every high school kid can have access to athlete interviews and coaching programs and think they can do it easily, too.
webb went after to the coach that got him to 3:53 in high school, so not exactly a huge risk there.

On the other hand, kids who are in programs where they make the bowling coach take on track an xc have a chance to learn how to train properly and excel.

Since this article, I have read an interview with Wariner who talked about how good it was to train with his buddies again. What I wonder is if Williamson could not afford Hart. Also, until last year, Wariner actually had Sanya Richards as a training buddy, but - because of whatever ails her - she is on a reduced schedule.
Only time will tell if this was a wise decision.
I knew Mike Ford back in high school. He ran very well back then because he learned from great coaches at that level. He was coached by Trent Jackson, a former Olympic sprinter and Cedrick Walker who was selected as the National Women's High School Coach of the year at one time. Mike Ford would blow competitors out, but, never showed an ounce of arrogance. In fact he would be the first person to offer another sprinter or jumper advice. If you look at his resume,he was coached by Hart, he was recently a head coach at Rochester, and now he coaches at Baylor too. It would seem that if Wariner had a major falling out with Hart that he would not be able to use the facilities at Baylor. Based on Mike Ford's background in track it would make sense that Hart is grooming him to be the head coach at Baylor when he retires or helping him to become the premier 400 meter coach in the country who does so by carrying on Hart's training program. What better way to do this than by allowing Mike Ford to coach Jeremy Wariner. Trust me Wariner will win double gold this year!
