that 2:35 hurts my eyes
With all the talk about poor depth on the U.S. men's side, it's easy to forget how poor the depth has become on the U.S. women's side. Women's times in the U.S., like women's times generally, were coming down like crazy into the mid-80s. By now, I would have expected at least a couple dozen U.S. women to be routinely running under 2:30 (that is, within eight or nine minutes of what Joanie was running over twenty years ago), not fewer than ten under 2:40. Is it simply that competitive marathon running, especially among women, isn't a popular pastime in this country anymore?
It's popular among women, but not amongst the most talented of women...
I was looking down your lists. I noticed in this past May's NAIA National Championships (Fresno, CA), there should be a few young (American) ladies from that race on the list. Thoughts?
Is there an official list ?

Sorry, I've just spotted your cut-off was 3:15 Chip.
Yay, Nicole. #19
Rebecca Tallam & Claudia Colita are not American - Kenyan and Romanian
Thanks for putting this up wejo.
An explanation, since I put the list together:
1) The cutoff for inclusion was 2:45 for men and 3:15 for women. I included some chip times (mostly women) since some marathons only listed chip times, like NYC, so that made it somewhat fair.
2) I tried to exclude foreigners, but I don't know everyone and Google only told me so much. Some were obvious, such as Kenyan sounding guys from Albuquerque and Russian women from Gainesville, FL. Many are not as obvious. And the Yonkers marathon had too many for me research.
3) If someone points out the foreigners, I will exclude them from the list.
4) I could have missed Americans who ran foreign marathons, since I mainly used the results from marathonguide.com. If you know of someone who did this, I will include them in the list. But I want something more than 'my buddy ran a marathon in Italy is 2:40-something.' Including a link to results will be appreciated.
Chris Lundy ran 2:51 at the Pan Am Games in July. Unfortunately, I can't find the link to the official results.

Eh, just post them here. I can copy and paste just as easy. I'll probably just let the thread go for a while and make one effort at updates.

Wasn't that the 2008 PF Chang Marathon? And the list is for 2007. A slight disconnect.
Thanks for compiling the list.
