What would be the ideal number of races an 800 meter athletes should race over the course of the season?
What is too many? 8-10...?
Between relays, major invitationals and the post-season, it's tough to limit that number below 10....

800s are not a problem. It's those 1M and 2M races that you have to limit.
I'd think about throwing in a mile (maybe 2) and some 400s - even if it meand doubling on the 4s ... until peaking time
and there is no such thing as an ideal - set - absolute #. Running and running a season is a 'constanly fluid thing'. The value of a coach, among other things, is to be able to 'read' what's happening and adjust accordingly. You micro and macro that.
