The "Spirit of 76" Train in 1976?....Do you remember it?

I remember it! I was only 8 or 9 at the time and had a denim jacket with a bunch of '76 / USA patches all over it. Patches were cool then. ;-) I don't remember much ... seems like there was a Liberty Bell replica ... some talking cut-outs of Presidents and that's about it.

I was 13 when I went through it. I remember seeing the chair Abraham Lincoln was sitting in when he was assasinated, Judy Garland's ruby red slippers, and Hank Aaron's 715th home run ball. I believe there was also a pair of Ali's gloves in it. It had a people mover in it so you couldn't stand around and look at things.

I thought it was pretty cool, I do remember that.

Oh, and it was called the American Freedom train.

I would have been 5. I have an HO-scale model of the engine that still works! Gotta love trains!

The main thing I remember about that year was "The Bicentennial Minute" that was on TV all the time. I think the fat guy from "Cannon" talked during it a lot.'

And I remember at 12:00 noon on the Fourth of July every one with a bell in the country was supposed to start wringing it and I was disappointed that it wasn't louder. Just as I was disspointed that threy didn't set up "Hands Across America" where all those people held hands at the exact same time and stretch it all the was from coast to coast.
