We say continue the trend and put the meet every year in niche markets so it will sell out. Palo Alto has a decent track record of supporting track so we're glad to see it's going back. Alternate it between places like Palo Alto and Eugene (although Eugene is living way too much on its reputation) and obscure out of the way states like Iowa or Kansas (which attracted more than 100,000 spectators to the women's US golf open as they appreciate getting "major league" professional events). Stay away from major cities except perhaps in Olympic Trials years as the track nationals simply aren't a big event in a big city. In a smaller city, it's a huge deal which creates buzz.
Why does it always have to be in the west? Maybe they can't sell out because so many fans are on the east coast and aren't going to pay to fly all the way to Cali for a down year world champs. What about Texas? They love track there and its centrally located. Someone talk Carl into putting money up for a killer stadium in Huston (that is if they don't get the Olympic bid in 2012).
