Quick clarifying question:
If you run a 2-turn stagger: the exchange zones are identical for all relay teams (Lane 1 zone).
If you run a 3-turn stagger: the exchange zones are staggered around the turn.
Is this correct?

yes and they must stay in their lanes until the 1 turn break which is at the middle of the first exchange zone for the 4 x 100 or the start of the 300m hurdles.
thanks
On the two-turn stagger make sure they all break after the first exchange! We had a middle school team run the entire second leg in lane 7, no matter how much we yelled at them to break...
Where will you find a 2-turn stagger on 4x400 relay. All I ran in College and open track meets are 3-turn stagger. It is much easier for the exchange and gives the 2 leg runner the opportunity to get the inside lane by running a fast first 100M on the turn to beat others.
Sometimes in a dual meet where you don't have a lot of congestion to worry about they might run a two turn stagger. WE use 3 turns though because we want to prepare the kids for district and state.
If the exchange zone is 20 meters how do you mark that for the first exchange on a track? Is it 10 meters behind the 400m start and 10 meters in front of it?
Yes.
