Wow. Thanks, the interview at the end was pretty cool too.
fricking awesome. The interview at the end was cool too.
Cool. Many thanks.
Seems to be a much more humbler Prefontaine than what the media pprtrays him as. His post race interview was not in the least bit cocky or selfish as everyone makes him out to be.
Thanks for that video.
FSU Guy: I think most athletes are a little more humble post-race then pre-race. However, we have certainly seen plenty of stories about his cockiness without mentioning nice interviews like this one.
Great video, thanks. I think we tend to forget that what was considered 'cocky' in the late 60s early 70s might seem positively polite by today's standards. They hadn't yet been subjected to the likes of today's real jackasses.
he does not sound cocky at all. thanks

said it all right there.
Thank You !
Was Prefontaine considered cocky by yesterday's standards, or have recent memorials of him (movies, magazine articles, etc.) glorified his frankness and do they want to call it cockiness to take some of the vanilla out of the sport? I liked how he was so specific in his assessment of the field, totally honest "all but X were going to do Y." I am not a Prefontaine fan necessarily, but I loved that honesty. "I might have been able to go another lap, but not three" -- etc.
Thanks for sharing that.
I thought the commentary of the race was great too
I'm an old codger compared to many reading this forum. Pre was my hero in the day. That race shows why.
Here's a downloadable copy of the video, I ripped it off YouTube and hosted it, Right-Click Save As the link to download:
That 150y track is like running laps in an empty water tank. It's almost ALL curve!
FYI that's similar to the track that Lindgren ran 8:40 in High School, almost beating Ron Clarke.
weird. Posted last week. Aired in November of 2004...
Say what you will about Pre, he ran every race leading from the start and look what he could do.
Judge the way you choose-
i think this is an important look into who pre was. For once we see a real person and not the hollywood creation that many people idolize.
Personally i think he was down to earth and knew how he needed to race. I hope this is the way he actually was and not a cocky sob like he is often made out to be.
I guess I'll be the first to say - it wasn't a very fast race. Is LA a slow track? Loooked a bit bigger than Milrose...great tactics and great interview

F%$# yes, that's a slow track! Does your discerning eye detect 2 meters longer thna Millrose?
3:59 on that little piece of crap is worth 3:55-6 outdoors, easy (the WR was 3:51)
Does not wanting my kids to watch a bisexual threesome at the Olympics make me a bigot?
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)

Gudaf Tsegay will not race the 10000m? Just to spite the federation?
