Jakob forced Kerr to run from lane 3, with his wide elbows strategy.
If that didn't happen, Kerr would have won.

Would Ing have won bronze instead of pewter if Kerr had won gold?
did Ing sacrifice a real medal for robbing Kerr of gold?
He cut Cole off first with a bit over 100 to go
Hocker got pushed back with 100 to go and had to completely reset his kick. If that doesn't happen he probably wins by more.
Hocker will continue to be underrated here somehow, it's inevitable.
rubbing is racing
Wtf crack you guys are smoking? Jakob runs in front in lane 1, angling a bit out tactically so the way around is longer for Kerr. Hocker comes on the inside pressing Jakob into lane 2, thereby pressing Kerr into lane 3. Phenomenal race by Hocker, Kerr and Nuguse. Jakob said in the interview that his tactic failed, he got too eager and blew it up
Phenomenal race by Kessler too. Only by comparison to Hocker and Guse is it less noteworthy. All 3 Americans effing rolled today. Damn that kicked A!
I'm a Kerr fan but this is exactly right.
no, Jakob was trying to stick to the rail when he felt Hocker coming, but then he had to drift out again when Kerr started coming, reopening space for Hocker. They totally tag teamed him. Smart of Hocker to stay where he was and wait for the inside to open up again.
Did Hocker tap Jacob on the side/back going into the final 100? I watched it a few times and it looks like hes telling him to clear a lane.
As long as Kerr didn't win, I am a happy man.
Did you notice how big of a stop Jakob gave Hocker? Had that not happened, Hocker may have run 3:26 high to 3:27 Low low.
Loser loser chicken dinner!
CRY ABOUT IT REDCOAT!! YOUR KING HAS FALLEN!! USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA
Honestly, I think the reason people underestimate him, myself included, is because he's sort of unlikeable. I just don't want him to be good because he has the most punchable face in track and field, and I'm including Jakob in that count. He also looks soft. And he's arrogant. Nice race, though.
Gtf outta here
Yes that was wild. He ran right up onto Jacob's back and tagged his back and slowed down. I'm not sure how much time he lost. If Jacob does not drift to the right, I don't think that Hocker wins. He almost started to try to swing wide, but Nuguse was already there. I think if Hocker has to swing wide, Kerr wins and Nuguse might get the silver, Hocker bronze. VERY FORTUNATE but great of him to see it open up and take it!
It isn’t realistic to expect the runner in front of you to move wide to let you pass on the inside. Hocker got lucky that Jacob decide to try and run Kerr wide versus holding his lane. He gambled and won. Jacob stumbles back to the inside they collide and neither medals. See British 800m championships…
Hocker would have won by more if Jakob didn't close him off coming out of the turn.
Hocker broke stride and still came back to win. I don't know if people appreciate how hard that is.
The only properly world class race hocker has ever run apart from today obviously was the us championships a month ago or something and hocker showed a fast kick for a somewhat fast time time it was a 3:30 mid or something but there’s never been a reason to think he would run so quick it’s the first time. Think of all the times hocker fans have seen him run another mediocre time and still thinking he’s going to best the fastest in the world.
JAKOB INTERVIEW : He said he felt so good that he misjudged his own opening
Kerr congratulated Hocker even though he was devastated. Jakob just sulked off the track.
Mondo competes for Sweden instead of USA. Brilliant move or cheap copout!
FAITH KIPYEGON has been DQd from 5000 - What a joke. Update: She's been reinstated
Kerr only lost to Hocker because Jakob cut Kerr off in the final 100m...
