None of them were going to factor in the final anyways.
Reeke had a pretty good season; I was stunned she missed the final. I thought a bronze was possible.
What drugs are you people on, hype? desperation to see your lily-white 2nd rate athletes medal? In what world was she ever a medal contender? Who has she beaten so far this year? The same Duguma who dusted her did the same thing at the indoor championships earlier this year and she was somehow going to get a bronze? She didn't bottle anything or choke, she was simply not good enough and got outclassed, no tactics would have saved her.

You realize, of course, she just ran 1:55 a few weeks ago, and has a better PR than the reigning world champion Mary Mora?
Had she not fallen for Duguma's tactic and run wide, she would have made the final easily. In the final she would just need to follow Keely and would get her silver ala London DL.
Though the silver lining is that Keely would certainly take heed and not let Mora dictate the race and instead run at her own pace. In a sense, Reekie's sacrifice would be worth it for her country.
Reekie had the misfortune of drawing the same semifinal as Duguma. Head to head dynamics are a lot more important than personal bests. Today's race played out the same way as the world indoor final, where Duguma wore down Reekie with ease.
The teenager Gill simply wasn't ready to step up to this level. It was obvious in the opening heat.
Akins was just the latest American middle distance runner to sit too far back in the pack during an international race. I've seen it all my life and been disgusted.

What a bunch of utter BS! She didn't 'sacrifice' anything and was simply outclassed by a much better runner who, like me, didn't give a rats' rear end about whatever time she may have run a few weeks ago as she couldn't replicate it and her time today wasn't good enough to get her through. Her tactics were so poor that she finished fourth, she wasn't smart enough and chose to employ a bad strategy which says she's a poor runner and even poorer tactician, lacking the acumen to correctly read and execute race. What's ironic is that it was the second time in months she went against Duguma and got her rear end handed to her on a global stage.
This wasn't london where she was mostly racing against tier 2/3 athletes, these are The Olympic Games with tier 1s and she showed, again, she isn't up to to par. Why couldn't she replicate her 1:55?
That london DL gassed up a few people into believing they are more than they are and the biggest will get back to reality in a few hours. The only silver lining is the silver medal she'll get.
But keep believing in make believe stories of sacrifices and silver linings to deal with the cope of your overhyped and overtouted athletes being trounced out of the games if it makes you feel better,

I will bump this thread back up in less than 20 hours.
Reekie should have moved up to 1500m last year - her 1.55 this year, but lack of 400m speed, bodes better for 1500m. Has run 3.58, but could go sub-3.55 if she focused on it. Too much respect for Muir (understandably), seemed to have prevented the move.
Losing to Duguma indoors (when no one else ran the meet at that level) should have motivated her to make that move, but easy to say in hindsight.

You’re angrier than me, and that’s saying something.
The teenager Gill simply wasn't ready to step up to this level. It was obvious in the opening heat.
I'd say that if you're coming fourth in an Olympic semi-final you definitely are ready for this level.
She did amazingly well considering the only competitions she has run previous to this are the English Schools and the British Champs. She’s 17! She has a local coach.
She has zero experience of racing at an international level. Imagine what she’ll be able to do in a year or two. The only mistake she made (and it’s understandable) is running very wide. That’s probably nerves and wanting to keep out of trouble. She actually looked strong in the home straight. Just not quite enough in her legs.

People need to be a lot more generous to Gill. She's never raced an international field before and is still coached by her club coach. She raced like she was worried about being in a pack. She was racing the English schools championships this time last year. It all adds up to a lack of experience from her and her team. She'll be better for a year on the circuit
