It doesn't really matter to me which country wins, but honestly I don't see how Femke is better or more interesting than Sydney. Neither has an amazing personality but both are great athletes. I assume it's down to skin color unless someone else can make a more compelling argument.
And don't bring up the mixes 4 by 4. It's a fun event but still D-list.

i think if there is any bias it is probably related to Bol running many more competitions rather than a select few races.

I suspect many like runners who mix it up and race more often. I'm only pulling for Sydney because I'm American but I'm disappointed that she rarely competes.
Eh. In sports, especially individual ones like track, I never found myself cheering for athletes just because they were American. I generally go for who I like better, either because of interviews I've seen, articles I've read, and/or races I've watched. It's pretty easy for me to be glad when a jackass like Richardson loses, even though she's American. This isn't national security. I suspect a lot of track fans are the same. Country matters, but it's just one of several subjective factors.
I'm not going to lie, but because I'm white I will tend to cheer for the other white athletes, even if they are on a different team. Nothing personal I guess it's just a cultural thing I guess. It's kinda of like when black people voted for Obama because he was black. I have no prejudice towards people of color I just tend to cheer for people of my same color. Why would this be any different from other people's of color?
I cheer for an athlete who competes and Femke is more likely to be clean than Syd who is definitely juiced hard. Sydcels defend her endlessly and her drug coach 24/7.
Nobody is cheering against USA. Femke ran one of the fastest splits in world history while spending a lot of time in lane 2. Her 47.9 is RIDICULOUS. Yeah, USA lost but everyone recognizes greatness when we see it, and Femke is one of the best ever.
If Syd bothered to SHOW UP and race, and she beat Femke in this mixed 4x4 by splitting 47.0, we'd be going crazy.
