Typically race on the track in Dragonflys, but haven't done a road mile in a few years. I know a lot of fast runners like flats for that, but I'm not at that level. I'll 41 by the time the race comes around, if that matters, and aiming for a modest 5:00 +/- a few seconds.
Vascillating b/w three shoes, but have my reservations with each:
Flats: Light and smooth, but often my legs are trashed in the homestretch even with the cushion of Dragonflys
Vaporfly 2: Seems to be a popular pick. Good shoe, I just don't know if I love them.
Alphafly 1: Love these shoes. They are incredible,, and have seen people wearing them on the track even for a mile. But I worry they may be a lot of shoe for a short race.
Have heard good things about the Takumi Sen, but no room in the budget for those and not a lot of time to acclimate to them before the race, but perhaps I'd consider them in the future.
