No, you are being fair.
Sean would be "A" tier. Would be.
However, at age 29, he still hasn't figured out how to stay healthy for a full season.
First it was Achilles/heel surgeries, then bone infections, and now for the past couple years, stress fractures.
You can say it's on Jerry, but at some point the athlete has to take the initiative and institute changes necessary to stay healthy. Even if it means leaving for a new living/training environment a la Woody, Grant and Elise.
Despite another setback this winter, Sean has already set 1500 & 3000 prs and will likely set a mile pr next week at the British Milers Club meet or the week following at Sir Walter Miler. Then, would not be surprised at all to see him get into a fast 5k post-Paris and break 13.
However, likely Sean has only 2-3 years left as a potential "A" list track athlete. He has to stay healthy from fall practice through next summer's racing to reach his potential as a world class 5k runner who could advanced to the final in Tokyo and at least be competitive for a medal.
Otherwise, Grant and the young guys like Nur, Wolfe, Young, Blanks, Jacobs will continue to slam the door on him making national teams like they did this year.
