His inner hobbyjogger self was too strong.
Watch the face of the Swiss dude in the second lane as he passes him @1:40-1:50.
I guess the thing to remember is the kid is the age of a high school sophomore. Looking him up, I'll just say he was bound to have to learn this lesson at some point, seems to be a bit of a showboater.

So many things going through my head, but since he's a kid I'll roll with:
Here's hoping he learned a valuable lesson at a young age.

Yeah, that's how I saw it too, that he was really showboating trying to show how easy it is for him to let up that much and just trot across the line.
But man! That sucks! I feel bad for him, but yeah, it's lesson learned I'd think.

He's a huge talent. Only a sophomore, based in the US, he has PBs 10.38 and 20.55.
Let's just hope he uses that talent to produce something with more views than this:
I mean it was painful to watch, like watching a car wreck. It couldn't have been scripted any better than that. Just as the announcer is finished singing his praises.....
Perhaps his coach told him to ease off the gas. He just eased off too much
Shericka Jackson did the same thing at Tokyo Olympics. She has since learnt from her mistake. This young man will learn as well. Hopefully...
This wasn't just easing up near the finish. This was almost as if we was trying to let the others catch him. He was so far ahead, that easing up would have still resulted in a win. He really put on the brakes.
Conspiracy theory about fixed races, anyone?
I wonder if he's been taking those Gatorade gummies and thought he'd better finish out of the top 3 to avoid post-race testing.
What a nightmare. You can see the kid has zero feel for how to run a prelim, went out too hard and then slams on the brakes 60m out. Was this his first major international meet?
Clearly a huge talent so hopefully he can use this as a learning experience.
What a stupid idiot.

Or more likely a protest, or he just did not want to advance? Or he was high? How can you be so far off?
Is he entered in the 100? Suspicious of drug testing avoidance ...
I can't feel sorry for the kid. The only way I could was if he felt a possible injury lurking.
The thing is, this was the slowest heat too. Both 2nd and 3rd in this race were slower than the slowest non-automatic qualifier. So he really didn't even need to go hard in the first place. He could've cruised the start of it and ramped it up near the end instead.
I'd fake a limp as soon as I crossed the line
Do people here genuinely not know how testing works? They can test whoever they want. In fact drawing attention to himself like this probably just earned him a test.
