“I was like, ‘this guy can talk!’ I knew he talked, but I didn’t know he talked that much. Obviously me being a competitor, it raised all the red in me. I was like, ‘this guy, man! Shut up.’
“My girlfriend said ‘don’t try to let it get to your head. He’s saying these things so you guys can be thrown off psychologically’. So for me I use that desire, that red in me, and I try to put it out on the track.

And it's working. I think Noah's personality really is kind of like what he displays on TV but he turns it up to 100 to get in his competitors heads - and it WORKS. It really works. I honestly think it's the reason why he won that 100 last year.
If Kishane avoids the drama and the talking and stays in his lane, he takes the title.
Hughes GF must be correct and it's working as planned by Noah. Whenever Noah is challenged the first thing he does is call them out verbally. When Knighton almost beat him Noah immediately tried getting in the youngsters head at the finish line. He's called Kerley out and if Hughes GF is advising him to not let Noah get in his mindset then Noah's strategy is working. Play his game and talk trash but you must have the talent also.
What’s that old saying. If you are going to talk the talk you better walk the walk. Noah talks a lot. And runs superbly fast. If it works, don’t fix it. Not just getting in the heads of others. He’s super fast. He talks himself into confidence. It is not a good fit for others, but that’s him. He’s dedicated as well. Good luck beating him.
Then Hughes, beat him into the ground. Send him packing with his tail between his legs by beating him. Until then, you shutdahellup.
Hughes is more likely to false start in the final than beat Lyles. He’s getting his publicity in while he can, before Paris, as afterwards no one will be contacting him for interviews.
Lyles is a talker. But he thrives on being a big personality. Zharnel needs to stop thinking about his irritation with Lyles and focus on what HE is trying to accomplish. But because Zharnel is saying this stuff out loud, he has already lost.

You’re giving him too much credit. He wins because he’s a talent. But I was wondering about what the field thought of Lyles, watching the intro to the 100m final at Trials. Lyles gets to come out last with a WWE POV for tv camera following him and it’s put up on the screen in the stadium. But it looked intrusive and deferential in the stadium. Lyles is corny and nonthreatening and wins so he’s been made into the face of the sport in the US. Quincy Hall is also tired of Lyles yapping.

Lyles has been backing up his talk though, hasn't he?

Noah could also exercise a bit of discretion. He's already getting his girlfriend ostracized in Jamaica, and he's probably pissing off his teammates with his talk about how he should be on the 400m relay, apparently despite his 47-second PB.
Also, I hate it when I'm running and I can't stop talking to myself. I know that Noah has a great finish, but I imagine Tebogo or Kishane Thompson closing in on the finish line, and they've shut down all the self-talking and they've got nothing going on in their heads but concentration, execution and relaxation. They've got that look on their faces like Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in 2022, and Noah's trying to overtake them and he's got a podcast going on up there.
He rationalizes that it's intimidating, good for the sport, etc. But there's a fine line between using that public blather and it using you. In the meantime, Noah is a legit 200m meter specialist who won the WC title in a slow year and now he's grandiose.

Quincy Hall should really challenge Noah to a 400 race after the Olympics. He'd destroy Noah while looking borderline spastic the whole time, mutter something about dogs, show his grill and walk away.
I think Kishane and Tebogo are very dedicated to keeping it low-key.

this is PRECISELY why the michael johnson track league needs to exist. I'd pay to see a 400m spite match between lyles and hall one week then watch Lyles light zharnel Hughes up in any event the following week. Best part they all get paid, drama created, eyes watching..

Listen man
These 100 runners
They can only blame themselves for the monster they created
Literally all they had to do was beat some B tier sprinter who couldn't start and decided to drop down from the 200
Now look whats happening
He's on the verge of becoming the Olympic 100m champion, literally the most prestigious title in our sport
