Tomorrow I am doing 16 miles with 5 miles of tempo mixed in. It is a tie (last week I did 16 in Vanish Tempo and got a black toenail) for my longest long run since my marathon in November. Which shoe should I chose?
I am rotating 3 pairs of shoes right now:
Easy runs in NB 840 (high stack/cushion). It is more cushion than I am accustomed to, but legs recover well in them. Shoe feels nice but have yet to run more than 6 miles at once in them.
Stride/workout/long runs Altra Vanish Tempo (medium cushion, spongy, responsive). Daily shoe but concerned about black toenail from last week.
Races I use the Altra Vanish Carbon. Love these, but is it bringing a gun to a knife fight for a long run? Likely to run in a cinder trail too, not sure if this negates carbon?
Let me know your preference or thoughts for long run shoes.
